I have been reading a bit around the site and found very little on all-in-one systems (in this case, an 8g BioCube). It came with bioballs, which I've never used. While the tank was saltwater I ran a custom media rack housing my filtration media. My question is which would be better for a FW Planted? Should I take the media rack out and add the bioballs back in (with floss on top)? Or should I just use the media rack with purigen/floss?

Healthy growing plants are good biological filters themselves therefore the media rack is fine to use. Steadily I'm noticing more planted tank enthusiasts using just floss and sponge. No need for bioballs or scintered glass etc.
