I've been wondering if Bio-Wheels are really worth it for biological filtration? Are they the best? I currently have an aquaclear 50 with the standard bio media, a sponge and some lava rock would a bio wheel be a lot better? It only cost me like $15 so its not a big deal. I'm just wondering if maybe getting an emperor filter with the bio wheel would really help. Thanks in advanced. Also are they quiet, not including water pouring out. :)

bio wheels have huge surface area and access to O2, sort of like a mini wet/dry.
Penguin has come out with a new bio wheel. I think theres an attachment that you can hook up to any output, but i may be mistaken.

Yeah, I think they are worth it. But if you're not overstocked and you're ammonia/nitrite levels are fine then why bother. AquaClear filters are probably the best at mechanical filtration and you can easily customize for chemical filtration (carbon, etc). Has your AquaClear been giving you any problems? I have an Emperor 400 and a Penguin 125 and I think they're great but I've never used an AquaClear. There is quite a rivalry between the Marineland and Hagen. I think they are both excellent. They are extremely quiet except for the water noise. I kind of like it but I don't have to sleep in the same room either.

I'm fishless cycling right now, I was just merely curiuos if it was worth it. I don't have a lot of room in the back due to having a hex which I kind of regret because of the problem I had with lighting among other things.. heh Even if it is growing on me.
