Ive just been lucky enough to be given a 48x18x18 tank and with it a BioLife UV filter. Now the filter seems to need an overhaul but I know absolutely nothing about them.

Any one got any info on them - like are they for aquariums as I'm sure ive seen this similar sort of thing for sale with the pond gear in my LFS.

The tank is filthy but water tight - as its full of dirty water at the moment and I have to empty it move it from the house up the road and then clean it - any suggestions for something to clean a really dirty tank.

cheers

UV filters are sold with pond equipment because they pass water by a UV light, killing any free floating little baddies in the water.... bacteria, parasites, hydra, algae, etc. It's a way to rid yourself of free-floating ich in a tank... or clean up all the algae in a pond. Beyond that, they're not very useful... just a supplement to a standard filter.
