hi,

looking to change my media to a better quality , looking at pumice or bio home mini ultra.

anyone used bio home mini ultra or the other types they do.

what do u think ?   other media comments welcome.

I currently have substat pro in 2 trays and was going to try and better it replacing one tray at a time.

I believe it's best not to change more than one third of the media so that the bacteria aren't compromised.
Can't help with the media you've mentioned as I've never used it.

I think you're tinkering unnecessarily. Substrat Pro, presuming it's the Eheim stuff, is about as good as it gets and you're going to get no improvement from changing, in my opinion. I have Substrat Pro and Seachem Matrix and they're both equally good. You have to wade through the manufacturer's hyperbole-filled claims but, basically, they're all quality biological filter media and there's no significant difference in the levels of beneficial bacteria they'll host. Don't believe the hype. (In my opinion... )

I use Biohome mini ultra exclusively now, good media and I did used to use Substat Pro, I did find weight for weight that the substrat Pro did significantly reduce water flow through the filter as there are fewer spaces between the pieces of media, also with the biohome after it matured after a few months my nitrate levels took well in excess of 4 weeks without a water change to reach 40ppm something that it would do after one week with the substrat Pro!

thanks been looking at there web site but rather hear from fishkeepers whats its like so thanks.
its been between bio home mini ultra , seachem or pumice really.
how have u got the filter set up , do u use loads of foam before bio ?
