Bio Balls

I have an eheim ecco filter. money has become a little tight right now and instead of buying the expensive eheim bio substrat, can I buy some bio balls and use those in the filter instead? Would it work the same or would it be better to stick with the eheim stuff?

bio balls will work fine m8 i use them in all my externals with no problems wotsoever

Bio balls WILL work, but they have nowhere near the surface area of the Eheim media... you only buy this every few YEARS, it really costs next to nothing in the long run

It really depends on your "load" but I would stretch a little further and get the substrat

You can add bio balls in addition to other media like lava rock or ceramic rings. Bio Balls alone wont suffice for a good filtration...........
