Bigians 220l Planted Tank, Journal Thingy...

unfortunately its just rather slow growing, once it takes i`m going to have some hairgrass at the rots wich i think should give a nice contrast providing the Hair grass gets enough light.

What i really need in there is a replacement for the cabomba

Well, it's about time, BigIan! I really like it a lot. An excellent effort, and the plants look very healthy. Don't worry too much about scaping right now, the tank is still quite young. Replacement for cabomba? Not liking it or is it doing poorly? If you like a similar leaf shape, two genera spring to mind, Limnophila and myriophylum. Limnophila can do better with moderate light, myriophylum does well with higher light levels. If you're above 2WPG, you should be good to go with both genera if your water isn't too hard. Limnophila does better in harder water than myriophylum. In really hard water, I haven't grown any of the three successfully.

llj :)

Looking really nice Ian, esp like the lily, nice red colour you got there. What are your plans for future scapes in the tank? Seems like you could start shaping it a bit?

The cabomba is doing a little too well, I have to prune it twice a week or so,
I`m not 100% sure what to replace the cabomba with, i think i`m going to have to spend a couple of hours trawling the tropica website in search of the perfect plant,

As for scaping the tank i`m not 100% sure...
I`m quite liking the jungle effect in the back, What i`m thinking is to grow a nice lawn of HC at the front with some riccia coverd stone here and there the lilly growing throug the carpet, the problem i`m finding the withe tank dimensions of 48x24x15 if i don`t have lots of tall plants at the back the tank looks empty,so not sure what to do i`m going to await the crypts growing out and the carpet of HC before i do much more

Right the last month for my tank has been a night mare,

The co2 ran out over xmas filling my tank with algae, and with work and other issues i`ve not really had time to care for it properly, but i`m back in full swing.
I Had a major black beard algae out break that i`m now treating with flourish excel and after onbe week its turning white and starting to recede,
The other major issue is my back ground falling off and having real trouble getting it to stick back on again,
I`ve also re-scaped the tank,

with the addition of some new bogwood i think the tank looks much better (or will do with more plants)
I`ve moved everything more into an island shape in the middle to be surrounded by a nice carpet of HC, I`m now awaitinfg the arrival of some fesh plants from aqua essentials to fill everything out a little....

let me know what you guys think

Just got a new diffuser from AE. So inow have 2 in my tank as i noticed during my recent algae outbreak that all the BBA was at the side of the tank where the co2 out put was and not at the other so hopefully now i`ve upped my co2 and with 2 diffusors in the tankl algae should be no issue any more
