i need to know soon cause im gettin the heater tomoz....

so will i need a bigger heater or can i have the normal size one?

Dawn xx

I'm not sure about UK galons I work in litres and only just US galons...either way be sure to check the convertors they usually have to wattage required for your tank...and yes as your tank is bigger...the bigger the wattage your heater needs :D

The best thing you can do is get another heater the same or bigger than the one you already have. Having two means that if one breaks, all is not lost and you can get a replacement with some time to spare.
Actually now that I have read your post properly:
If you are keeping the existing tank, then you need to get a bigger heater for the new tank, they are rated in watts, the higher the wattage, the bigger the tank it will heat.
I will work out how big a heater you need, in the meantime Im sure someone will beat me to it.

:D LoL we posted same tim :D btw hope we helped you

us gal is 27.029 :S

im dumbfounded i realy am.... so how much bigger then?

little bit??

the new heater ig to for this tank (cause errrmmm i forgot to turn the power supply off when i was doing a water change) is bigger than my old one, cant remember the size tho....

You need a minimum of 100W (W= Watts), actually its 70W but having headroom to raise the temp is always a good plan.
I think you may be able to get75W heaters, but I strongly recommend 100W

Ken

I would get 2 heaters that are both rated at half your tanks volume.

What I simply did was get the biggest heater I could find (300w) because they are all for the same price 55w-300w are all $40 for some weird reason. SO I got the biggest that I can now use on all my future big tanks! :D

The problem with very powerful heaters is that if it breaks and overheats the tank, a small tank will get very hot fast, and kill the fish. That's why I prefer keeping a smaller heater than required. My room temperature is not that far away from the desired tank temperature, and I don't mind if the heater is on for longer periods of time. I have a 100 watt heater on my 128 liter / 33 US gallon, a 50 watt on my 70 liter / 18 US gallons, and a 25 watt on my 41 liter / 10 US gallons tanks, and they do just fine.

Yes, that unfortunatly quite true, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

you are leaving out some critical info.

1)how cold does the room that the tank is in get?

2)Is it an acrylic tank or a glass tank?

3)Is it a drafty room?

and 4) are your fish very sensitive to temperature change?

Opcn

I'm sorry, all new to this.
The room's lowest would probably be 65 degrees F. The tank is glass and the room isn't drafty. Umm, you could say that they don't like temp change.
