here is what i received in the email...

Dear Wayne,

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Thank you for your e-mail concerning the Goldfish in the Big Brother house.

The fish were purchased from a reputable pet shop and full guidelines on
their care has been given to the housemates. We have also instructed the
housemates that the water in the tank needs to be changed every few days and
they have been provided with oxygenating tablets and water neutraliser,
again with full details of use, in order to ensure the quality of the water
the fish are living in.

We can assure you that all necessary instruction has been passed on to
ensure the health and continued well-being of the goldfish.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.

Regards,

Gilbert O'Connor

I thought there might be complaints about that, glad that people did. It's not as if those contestants actualy wanted fish so I didn't think they'd look after them properly.
I didn't even think people still kept fish in an unfiltered bowl?

i thought id see a thread about this they must of forgot to tell the housemates not to feed them 20 times a day as last night rachel fed them five times i think whilst heaven was in the throws of death poor thing
scot

I think it was basically over feeding, and over feeding and over feeding and moving the bowls from different rooms. Every time I saw the poor fish they were gasping for air and pooing!

One goldfish died.
The other one think its been removed by bb.
The rspca has been involved with bb about the goldfish.

well the thing is BB have been in the same situation that loads of newbies find themselves in all the time, they have gone and saught advice, they have provided housemates with instructions and done their best to ensure it is carried out. the fact that the petshop dished out dodgy advise is no more BB's fault than it is the fault of newbies who come on this forum every day with similar situations.

goldfish are still kept in bowls, even smaller than the ones on BB.. it does send accross the wrong message though. if they were given a 20 gallon tank then the viewers would see the fish were happier..

Oh good - I was hoping the RSPCA would step in. How did you find that out, Wilder? I watched it last night and was completely horrified by it all. After all those complaints BB had from the likes of us on here and other fish forums - and they did nothing but send out those ignorant, standard email replies. They are probably the sort to think, oh it's just a goldfish, what's all the fuss? (A bit like Nicole on there who, on hearing the news that the fish had died and that Rachel was upset, burst out laughing!!)

I think BB should be made to apologise to the public and to the housemates and then explain what would have been the correct way of keeping a goldfish, so that people watching can get educated as to the rights and wrongs of it all.

Ok, rant over for today LOL -Athena

Yes, at the beginning it may well have been through sheer ignorance that BB allowed the fish to be kept that way - but you would think that after receiving so many complaints about the same thing, which were offering the correct advice, that they would have looked into it further or taken the fish back from the housemates.

It was just horrible to witness because we were all saying it was so wrong and knew it would end like this and was so frustrating not being able to stop it.

I go on the big brother forum.
Members emailed bb and some reported them to the rspca.
A member had a phone call from the rspca to tell him that they are now in talks with big brother.

Oh, I see - thanks Wilder. Hope BB get a good telling off (along with their LFS).
