hi all new to the site and tropical fish keeping just bought a bi-ube 35 gallon tank and was looking for advice was wondering if any of you guys could tell me of a near pefect community for its size still trying to mature at the mo so pleanty a time to research and advice cheers :good:

I don't really like telling people a full plan for their community tank when they're first starting off. I think a lot of it should come from what you personally would enjoy keeping. The first question I'd like to ask you is, has your tank cycled yet? Secondly, are you going for a peaceful community, or a community of semi-agressive fish?

God Bless,
Joshua

was thinking of neons congo tetra gouramis guppys pleco/catfish if an adult will fit the tank and maybe a siamese with around three females probs is with the betta would they get aggressive with the guppys and the congo due to there finnage :good:

forgot to say the tank aint fully matured still a little cloudy how do i know when the full cycle is complete would this be zero nitrate and a clear tank ?

Bi-ubes dont generally have a very large footprint so most bottom feeders wont be well suited, id avoid putting Betta's in a community tank full stop and congo's get a little large :) apart from that, all good!

any other species you would recommend for the tank once established cheers

Small tetras and rasboras. Cherry barbs.

Perhaps go for a small tetra (not red) you like and cherry barbs, potentially very colourful, I'd saw silver tips and cherry barbs, but the silver tips may have a hard time in a tank that small because they are very active, maybe get something else.

congo tetra will be way too big for your biube.
You want to stick to smaller fish and as said, avoid bottom feeders.

Tetra (neons and cardinals must have a mature tank of 6 months on), danios, dwarf rainbowfish, dwarf/honey gourami, rasboras, smaller barbs would all be suitable for a biube :D

It's also not 35 gallons, but 35 litres.

Would be cool if they did do 35 gallon ones though, I like the shape, much much better than the biorbs.

if you're going to attempt a betta in a community tank, you can't have the gourami as well, they are both highly territorial fish and it's likely it'd end in disaster.
My betta lives with 4 zebra danios and 5 neon tetra, but to be honest I wouldn't advise any tetra as they can be fin nippers and it's just nicer not to have the worry!
Maybe something like cherry barbs, or mollies...when I bought my betta he was in a bustling tank of mollies and seemed fine. :)
But yeah either go for a gourami pair and community or one male betta and a carefully planned community!

maybe a siamese with around three females probs
I'm a little confused by what you mean by this? are you suggesting a male Siamese fighter AND 3 female Siamese fighters?
because if so, please don't even consider it. you would probably end up with a dead male or possibly some dead females.
Male bettas cannot be kept with ANY other bettas except for breeding purposes, in which case it is a carefully monitored short term situation with 1 male and 1 female only.

sorry if i misunderstood.

I currently keep lots of gouramis in my community tank and i also have 1m 2f bettas in this tank also without any issues but i always buy my gourami's in pairs so they keep each other busy, so i have 2 moonlights, 2 opaline, 2 snakeskin, 2 yellow, 2 striped, 2 croaking and 2 pink kissers all with my bettas and never had a problem.
as for a plec get a bristlenose, Medusa Bristlenose (liitle bit bigger than a standard bristlenose and a wider head but much better looking), Rubbermouth/bulldog pleco or a clown plec as they are all fairly small and cheap, except the medusa's they tend to cost a bit more.

I also have a smaller community tank with fancy tail guppies and 1m and 3f betta's in and never had any probs

grrrr luke, most of us know you dont like BiOrbs but they work great for a gourami pair.

and yes they only come in 35 liters and are unsutable for bottom feeding fish.

You must be very lucky not to have issues with your male and female bettas all being in one tank!!! I bought three supposed females for a tank and two of them were males. They near killed each other. Further replacement females proved to be male as well and my female ended up with all sorts of battering...bites, ripped finnage etc.

Gavva...
do not get any 'bottom feeders' for the Biube! No plecs or corys or similar. If you want an algae eater go for otocinclus in a small group. Any fish that lives on the tank floor will not thrive well in a biorb or biube (especially if the ceramic media is used...this is way too sharp and will damage their mouths and barbels) as the footprint is just not sufficient.
