I went in to my favorite lfs a few nights ago on the way home from work. they take great care of all of their fish, except the bettas which they keep in little bowls. I spoke with the owner, with whom I have done alot of business (purchased 3 tanks and all my current stock from him) and asked that while all of his other fish are taken really good care of why the bettas were in small bowls. he asked if I had a better idea to keep the quantity of bettas that he had (usually stocks over 200) I recomended that he use the floating birthing tanks to keep them in. needless to say I stopped by on the way home last night and all of the freshwater tanks had bettas in them in the little floating birthers. the bettas may not have anymore room in those but they are in tanks with fantastic filtration now B)

OMG! CONGRATULATIONS! That's awesome. I am so happy that you lfs did this for their bettas. I can't tell you how it warms my heart to hear it.

BB :D

well done tanked i like it when things like this happen it kinda restores my faith in people.

The thing is, they've also got to look better that way, and I would think that they would sell better. Those bettas in the little cups never look pretty to me, they just look all miserable. You probably did the fish and the owner a favor. ;)

He really stocks 200 of them? Jeepers! My lfs only has a few at a time -- maybe ten? They keep them in bowls, but they have one five gallon tank that they rotate them in and out of. They keep the females in a regular 20 gallon with other fish. My other lfs hardly ever has them. I guess around here the WalMart stores do most of the betta business.
