Snowball finally decided to pose.

Hope the photos are a bit better.

Cool! they are quite abit better! I suggest taking the flash off and then focusing on something beside it, then shooting it. With my Digital Camera they have marine life, and text. I use the Text mode becuase it makes everything very detialed.

I'll have to try that, not very good with the camera as you can tell

Morning stang1 :D

Much better pics! Your Green Phantom looks awesome, I really miss ours! Your little Snowball is cute. They are lovely little plecs aren't they? He looks about the same size as mine, possible a little bigger. Their markings make them stand out really well.

They look like they've got some nice caves there, must behard to find them most days!

Good morning Bex!
Your not far wrong about the caves, couldn't find my unidentified plec for ages this morning. He was tucked right at the back of the tank hiding under a cave! Most unusual, his favourite place is under the bogwood at the front of the tank.
The Magnum made another rare outing today so I spent ages watching him do his thing. And yes, the Snowballs are lovely, even if he was being camera shy!

I spend hours watching our plecs every night. Our big tank is next to the tv in our lounge, and right in front of the sofa so you get to see every move. They are such funny fish and they seem to have a lot more personality than 'normal' fish.

They kind of look like pre-historic monsters don't they?

You're right they do
As you can see, we've got the tv one side and the plec tank the other. Nine times out of ten we're watching the plecs! Plus there's a chair next to the tank and we all fight to sit on there just to watch them!

My cat managed to get in the photo! I've got a guppy tank in the fireplace and 2 fighter tanks on the shelf, the third fighter is next to the computer. To the left of the settee is a smaller tank with the little fish and 2 Bristlenose plecs.
I think we're getting out of control

I like the use of the fireplace for a tank! Much more interesting than a fire. It's getting out of control here too. We've got a 5ft and 3ft community tank, and now we are adopting a friends tank which has got a lovely big common pleco in it. He's about 5 years old and about 1ft long! I actually bought him years ago for my friend so he's kind of coming home.

We are turning into the local fish rescue/adoption centre. Just because we keep fish, friends and family think they can off load all their fish on to us. It's becoming a bit of a joke between us and our LFS. I just went and got a big bucket with a lid from them to get this pleccy home, and the guys just laughed! They've watched our fish addiction grow from day 1 when we first got into this so they find it all very amusing! We're on first name terms with most of them now. Methinks we spend too much time (and money) in their shop!

Anyhoo, great pics! Love the cat! :good:

Now I really envy you :grr: A 1ft pleco, bliss!
I really hope you can get some pics soon, I'd love to see your tanks.
Believe it or not we took the old fire off the wall and boarded out the fireplace just for the tank! I don't know if its dedication or craziness.

so many gorgeous plecs!

but how do you clean out those betta tanks?!

ohh and have 2 of those tanks you've got your guppies in hehehe.

I think it's a mixture of both dedication & craziness. And a horribly strange addiction you get with this hobby!

Well, here's a pic of our 5ft tank, taken not long after it was set up. Most of the fish are hiding. Got a lot more fish now and most of the plants reach the surface.

And here is the only pic of any of our plecs we've got. This is Eddie our L191 Royal Plec. Also taken a while ago. He has filled out a bit since this was taken.

And guarding his gravel cave. He doesn't go in it, he likes to sit on top and look over his kingdom!

That's the best I can do for now I'm afraid. All old piccies.

Hi Catxx,
The Betta tanks are pretty easy to clean out, I just use the siphon and sift through the gravel and sand. Perfected it now after swallowing enough sand to fill a tank!

Bex, your tank looks wicked, I love the pieces of bogwood! And as for your plec, I WANT HIM!!! No seriously, he looks like a real character, he's a beauty
Your pics are really clear as well, must start practicing with the camera more!

Cheers stang1! :D The hubby took those pics and it was a mates camera. I'm no good with the camera. i plan to do a digital photography course at the start of the new year so will hopefully learn how to get some great pics. Plus it means I HAVE to get a camera!

You're right, Eddie is a real character, they are quite funny looking plecs, mahoosive heads! Be warned though if you ever get one of these guys. You would not believe the amount of poop. We have to gravel vac every 3-4 days. Seems like we are always up to our armpits in the tank. He's probably my favourite plec though.

Just like babies, more comes out than what goes in
I can see why he's your favourite. I'm gonna be really sad and save a picture of him to show the other half!
How big will he get Bex, I really want one now!

He will get fairly big, about 1ft maybe a bit more. You can get all different types of Royal's. They are Panaques I think. Eddie is classed as a Dull Eyed or Broken Line. The other type I've mainly seen is the L190. These guys have red eyes and are lighter in colour.

KathyM on this forum has one. There's a piccie of him in one of the other posts further down. I think I starte it. I think it's in the thread called Different Gibbi's.

The one thing you do have to be careful with these guys is their diet. They are strictly veggie and they actually digest wood. They could live on a diet of pure wood, but it's always good to feed a mixture. Apparently, too much protein ie meaty foods, can lead to an early death as they get a fatty build up round their guts because they can't digest it. We've got quite a mix of carnivores but we've got feeding time sussed. Once Eddie gets his cucumber, he will eat the whole lot, skin and all and not a lot will distract him. So we wait for him to go for the cucumber, then stick the prawns in for the others. So far so good, he hasn't even sniffed at the prawns! :good:

If you ever see them in your LFS, go for it. They are so cute.

*EDIT - yeah, check out KathyM's Royal in the Different Gibbi's thread. The one with the red eyes. He is gorgeous!*
