I agree bettamomma, what i don't get with most people though is any betta any day is more beautiful than most fish and most of the so called "ugly bettas" although not as attractive in comparison to some other bettas, are still very beautiful in comparison to most other fish.BettaMomma said:SO...
If I'm understanding this correctly, they import high end beauties to sell, and these guys are the low-life rejects that aren't good enough to sell as the "high enders"?
It just breaks my heart that because a betta has some slight imperfection they're deemed as the low-lifes that aren't worth anything really. Those are the kind I like the best.![]()
Exactly. It's not necessarily "pretty versus ugly" because none of them are ugly. It's about near perfection and staying within the standards. If a fish has huge faults that make him unshow-worthy, most breeders cull them. Others continue to raise them and hope to adopt them out some day. Surely bettaman doesn't refer to them as "ugly fish" on his adoption pageOohFeeshy said:If I remember rightly the adoption page is for bettas that aren't 'show quality'. As in, if you breed them the offspring will have the same problem so they're not worth anything to breeders.
mmm, fair enough. I actually compare it to people who are born with a silver spoon and handed everything, they could never survive in 'the real world', much like 97% of show fish. Where as the veil is street smart and tough as nails.BettaMomma said:No - I didn't mean it to sound like he did say there were ugly ones.
But rather that's kind of the concensus everywhere, not just on that site - but it's moreso that the veils are the "ugly" ones and everyone else is the glamorous type. Maybe ugly isn't a good term - maybe it should be compared moreso to celebrities versus us common everyday folks.
