I have a spare 10 gallon tank would it be best to have 1 Betta in it or get a divider and put one on both sides would that be alright?

Hi, You would be better moving your post over to the betta group!!

Lawrence

If you use a divider make absolutely sure that there is no open space left between the divider and the tank wall & floor. One of my guys found an incredibly tiny opening that was left when the plastic edge piece didn't actually butt up against the bottom piece - so he slipped through and terrorised the other one.
And of course, you'll need to make sure that they can't jump over the top as well because some bettas do jump.

Personally I would give the whole space to one betta. And I deffinately would not put a frog with a fish. Frogpoop is toxic to fishes as far as I know. Further information about this would be appreciated.

My suggestion:
1 male betta
3 kuhlies or some shrimps that like warm water

You could divide that in two or three  As said by purple_drazi, be so careful with your dividers, they are excellent jumpers and will find the teeniest cracks as well

ADF's would be fine in there, if you did two dividers, you could put a couple in each side. Oto's would work well too  Skip the shrimp, bettas will eat them :flex:

Yes a froggie would be nice :) I'd like to keep a betta with a crab but I don't want nippyed fins :(. A snail? Or what about a bristlenose plec? It's up to you, but a bottom dweller would be best, and not a bright coloured one.

Ten gallons isn't enough for 3 kuhlis and it's not enough for a bristlenose either. Snails work but if you use salt in your tanks you have to watch how much you use.

Also agree 10 gal is not nearly enough space for khulis also I have kept aquc. dwarf frogs with females betas without any problems as long as their is constanct water changes I don't see their being a problem. I think the divided tank with two betas would be really nice though and your best bet :)

No, 10 gal is not quite enough for even one kuhlie. But 1 and 3 kuhlies fit equally in any sized aquarium. They don't take own territories, but enjoy of company. Otos need cooler water than betta, so I would not recommend them. Bettas need space, they are living animals. Bettas live in places like this http://www.aquarticles.com/images/Ng%20Sar...ure%20P/04s.jpg (still probably more water than 10gal) but also in rivers http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSum...sname=splendens. I don't think it's good excuse to keep bettas in small space because they can stay alive in it. They deserve better. It's very egoistical to put betta in smaller space just because then you can take many of them. Ok, I shut up now. I know that what I say makes some of you mad, but please, try to remember that I say everything for best for the fishes not just to make you mad. Sorry.

Here in finland it's actually forbidden in law to keep any fish in smaller tank than 10 gal. Many other countries have comparable law.

A 10g divided in two would be great :) I had one male in one before, but he only ever stayed in one end of it so I divided it and gave him a neighbour

My boys never really got on with any tank mates and were quite happy in their own space.

There is one good thing in divider. Fishes will have something to do when puffing out each other. So they will not get that bored.

Here is some bettas I have.

All of them are in community aquariums, from 24 to 45 gallons. I would not put them to smaller tank, because I have seen them using all the space they've got. But finnish bettas are used to have space, maybe thats why they need it.

I am seriously not going to get deep into this, but it's true that bettas do the best in 1 to 10 galon tanks. Fish in larger spaces are not as healthy and their lifespans are shortened. Facts :)

Sorry to double post :*)

thapsus-both of your posts with links contain bad information be it in words or by example :/ It is a really bad idea to keep females with males and both of your posts protray this.
