Hey Betta peeps! My new betta is pretty good about eating up all his yummy pellets but sometimes they sink and then they aren't "good enough" for him. I have been removing them daily with a siphon however this removes quite a bit of water as well-- so he's sort of getting a 25% water change daily which I guess is pretty good for him, but would a tiny loach or catfish help me out with the clean up as well? Or what about a hermit crab? The tank is a 3 gallon eclipse with plants, filtration (and soon to have sand substrate).

You can't put a hermit crab in they're saltwater. You could try a snail or two in. Probably no other fish though.

Blech! snails
Hermit crabs are saltwater? My god, I had no idea. I'm an idiot!
You dont think a small loach would work out?

I have the exact setup as you and I've been told from my lfs that corys would be a good choice to put in with the Betta.

Today at Petco the salesperson that was helping me told me I couldn't put any other fish in with him as since he's established the tank as 'his' he'll go after anything else I put in there.

I tend to believe the lfs over Petco. We'll see.... I'm going to wait another week or so and get me the corys.

I actually have the same question because I just set up my 10 gallon and divided it in two for my two bettas and ADF. I have a filter but its on one side and the food cant get pulled through the mesh divider from the other side, so I want to know what kind of sucker fish are good to get. I got 2 corys for my brothers tank and they are great..I think im going to get two for mine as well. I suggest these fish because they dont get big (around 3 inches) and are peaceful.

i use apple snails in my breeding tank and grow out tank, they work really well but do breed like rabbits (wish there was a market for them) :p also, the tank bottoms are bare, not sure about snails and sand substrate. :dunno:

I have 2 albino bronze cories in with my betta in his 2.5 gallon Minibow. Cories do like to be in schools, but since that isn't possible in this situation, I have 2. I think that you could probably have a few too. If you got smaller ones like pandas, maybe you could squeeze 3 in there - the Eclipses have nice filtration, so it should work out. Otherwise, 2 of a different kind would probably work out find. My betta adores his cories, they play together. He did pick at them a bit at first, but now it's no problem at all.

When you say you have 2 cory's in with your betta, do you have a filter or not? Just wondering as My tanks dont have filters - just heaters.

Would be great if Cory's would be okies without filtration.

Catfish will work fine with a betta and will find any lefteover food, but if you have the room get a few of them, they are schooling fish and most comfortable, and most enjoyable (to me at least) in groups.

Faewyn - Yes, my cories are in a tank with filtration. IMO, they appreciate it too. If you were to keep them in an unfiltered tank, I think you'd probably have to do water changes quite a bit and keep up with your gravel vaccuuming - otherwise the cories might get sick. Might be more trouble than it's worth. You could always try it though, if you have another tank to move them to if it doesn't work out.

Thanks for all the replies guys.... I think I'll be scouting for young little corydoras soon! And Moses the Blue Betta says Hello!
