Hello Everyone,
I want to know if 1 male Betta would be alright in my 29 gal. tank. I have the following fish:

1 Red Flame Dwarf Gourami
1 Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami
2 Red Platys
1 Neon Tetra and 5 Jumbo Neon Tetra
2 Red Wag Swordtails

I really want to get a Betta for my community tank yet I wanted to make sure I did some reaserch first. Thanks for the replies,

Aaron

Many people say that Betta's do not get along well with gourami's.
What type of filter do you have, and how much water doe's it pump per hour? betta's usually like a slow currant (in your case around a 90-150GPH filter).
Although I've heard that female Betta's (although less colorful) make great community fish. :)

 I'm sure a female betta is better suited for a community tank than a male, which can be more aggressive. I had a female betta in my community tank with platies, swordtails, tetras and mollies and she got along great with everyone. :-( Sadly, I had to return her because she had fin rot and I didn't have too much knowledge about treating it. I'm not sure about a betta with Gouramis, but hopefully someone with a little more experience could give you more advice! ;)

You could have problems with a betta and the gouramis,
depending on how aggressive each of them are.

I had a betta in my 30 gallon and the betta was constantly
picking on my gouramis. You may have problems too.

I put a male Betta in my community tank i also had 2 honey gourami in there and i had problems with the gourami harassing him he got so stressed i had to move him to his own tank cos he got the ICH with the stress ,hes fine now though with his little cory friends. It was my lfs that said he would be fine with my gouramis, but they were wrong. :(

Labyrinths' dont mix unfortunatley :( So it would be a no no also I think your Betta would take a fancy to the swordtails tail and would give them a hard time so its gotta be a no :(

I had a male betta in with my gouramis and he didn't get along that well with them. So he got his own tank and I tried a female in the tank. She worked great! She gets along with all the gouramis and corys and other tank inhabitants.
So, in my experience, the female betta was the best.
