Hello all.. I was wondering if its a good idea to put my betta in a community tank with neons, swordtails and guppies? If not, what fish would go with a betta?

B)

Guppies might be a problem. Potential hostilities due to colors.

Swrods, no problem, methinks.

Neons, aggression by betta, or neons nipping betta's tail.

Answer, plain and simple, no. Sorry

agree with above BUT try it and see. We had two females and a male in a community for over a year. The only thing that turned one of the girls nasty was when our tank broke and we were forced to keep all the fish in a very small tank for awhile. She ended up being very aggressive and still is.

U can keep them with platys, celebes halfbeaks most bottom feeders

but that depends on the bette it self some are aggressive and will kill anything that moves and some are ok to keep with other fishes

I definitely agree with that. I would never put my Sakana in a tank with other fish... he attacks anything that moves. That goofy fish even tried attacking the thermometer I tried to put in his tank. However, I have another Betta, Diamond, that I am going to try with some white cloud minnows... he's a pretty docile fish, sometimes he doesn't even flare at his own reflection. He'll just look at it for a while, then swim away.

If you do decide to try it, I would make sure you have an hour or two that you can sit there and keep an eye on them so that you can make sure they won't fight each other.

oh sure. and when you least expect it, when you've relaxed and aren't looking so often, someone gets the c**p beaten out them and dies.
good idea.

One of mine almost destroyed his tail doing this more than once. That poor thermometer was almost killed... once he got stuck though between the thermometer and the glass when the thermometer had suction cups (which I've removed), and he has stopped the fighting since.

Crap. Let's see if this works. ;)

ETA: It did, so I don't see why you put asterisks in. :p

I agree with the whole comment on everything going to hell when you least expect it.

The thing is, you would have a deal of tetras in the tank, and they are nippers, even if they are placid. I have 7 black skirts in my tank that hardly ever fight, but every now and then they'll gang up on one and chase it away.
