My bettas and balloon mollies do not play well together. Came home from work today and one of my mollies looks pretty chewed up. The other seems fine.

My tank is a 10 gallon with under gravel filter & power filter. The fish currently in the tank are three neon tetras, three black tetras, three corys, a rubbernose pleco, a cherry barb(?), two black balloon mollys and a betta. Everyone seems to be getting along except the bettas and balloon mollies. (and boy are they all hungry buggers!)

Now I gotta figure out what to do... Pull the betta or the mollies? Means getting another tank of some kind. I'll probably drop the betta into a salad bowl full of water for now.

:(

Sorry for the poor quality... Cellphone suck. :X

Hi
It would appear that you're well overstocked for a ten gallon.
It may be the lone cherry barb being nippy? Personally, i'd get the betta his own 2 gallon+ and think about re-homing a few others.
Cheers

The Betta will be having a go at the Mollies as they are similar in size and have slight resemblance to a Male Betta.

I'd re-home the Betta if u can and also consider reducing numbers/ upgrading to a larger tank. (How big is the Plec?)

going by his other tank matesd i would defo remove the betta to his own 2gal+ tank, he will be allot happier

Pleco is about 1.5 inches long. They are all pretty small fish. I plan on upgrading if I can keep up with this tank. I'll definately be keeping on top of the water quality (hence the two filters).

The betta seem to enjoy the company. He actually hangs around the three cories much of the time.

I really didn't think that the mollies looked much like a betta so wasn't worried.

I guess it could be the cherry barb like Bronzecat mentioned.

I hadn't though about the cherry barb. Hrm... now how to tell who is picking on who.

This is a new tank... I plan on upgrading if I can keep up with it. The fish are all pretty small, with the betta being the largest of the group by a fair amount. The pleco is the only other fish that may be a problem in the future.

The Rosy Barb will develop long fins and is Red colour usually(?) so would be in trouble with Betta. I tried to keep my Betta with other 'community' fish and it seemed fine for a while, BUT THEN> he turned and showed his aggressive nature, so I had to separate, then re-home him.
(I know of plenty others who only keep them alone or maybe with CoryCats.)

>If you decide to get a larger tank you could maybe keep the Betta and Cory in the small one.? :good:

Just an update... It was actually the barb that was attacking the other fish and not the betta. I've since removed the barb and have him in his own small, temporary tank. Not sure what I'm going to do with him now.
