Hi everybody.

I have a new juwel 96 litre tank with 5 lemon tetreas in and i am hopefully going to get some neons as well. What i am wondering is if A male siamese fighting fish will be ok in the same tank as the tetras? Will the tetras nip his fins or not?

Thanks everyone.

hello there, unfortunately you cannot safely put a male betta in the tank with tetras. although tetras are peaceful fish, they often can't resist having a go at the longer finned fishes in the tank. in some of the fish stores i have seen these fish in community tanks with many varieties of tetra, but i wouldn't want to risk it. unfortunately if you get a male betta, ypu are extremely limited as to what fish you can put with him.

You could possibly add a female betta in there and just watch to see what happens, if any aggression occurs you can remove it and then place it in its own tank. As I have a female betta with two neon tetras and there is no aggression as of now. *knock on wood*, so it may work for you to!

I believe there are some types of tetras that are compatible and don't nip. I don't really remember which ones are good tho.

Keep in mind, the temprament of your betta will determine if he will tolerate other fish. Some bettas won't rest until they have tried to kill everything in the tank (even peaceful otos!)

You never know... what absolutely won't work for somebody might work for somebody else. I wouldn't risk it however. I think neon tetras are the worst as far as being nippy.

when i had neons they fin nipped, i'd never put tetra with mine again, he lives with harlequin rasboras instead now

bump? anyone know the answer to this question? I dont
