Bettas And Livebearers

I was wondering if i can put 3 (male 2 female) guppies or platies with my male betta and 4 white clouds? I miss havig guppies and seeing wat kind of colors the fry came out to be and i want to condition my female betta(which is inher own tank till her fins grow back, bought her with torn fins and shes doing much better now) and while im conditioning them id like to keep guppies or platies again.. Never bred platies b4 but im still wonderig which is better to have with a betta???

Whilst there are many reports of betta and guppies living comfortably together, there are probably more reports of bettas attacking guppies in the mistaken belief that they are another betta.

Platies seem to work ok, they did for me at any rate, though I would suggest a ratio of 1M:3/4F

It depends largely on the personality of the Betta, amongst other things such as plants, hiding places, size of tank etc. If you have an extremely docile Betta then you might be okay with Guppies and Platies. However even the most docile Betta will still chase Guppies and other fish occasionally. Personally, I would not try to put Guppies in with Bettas, however you might be okay with Platies

Good i glad to hear about the platies cause i never raised their fry so im excited i might get whichever is cheaper. If the betta doesnt get along with watever i get. I can always put him in a 2.5 gallon i have sitting around they do just fine in there rigt?

A bit on the small side, in my opinion, but if there's an emergency, then it's better than nothing. The filter does need to be cycled, though.

Good to know i had a male betta in there exactly one year ago but gave them away for guppies but they he lived happy in there ..he wud nearly fill the top with a bubblenest i think thats wat im going to do if they dont get along-the gups and betta

If you're going to try the Betta and Guppies I would say monitor it closely, and have a net or whatever handy in order to remove the Betta if he becomes too aggressive.

I might try platies depending on the condition of the guppies and platies. Sometimes the lfs only has a tank of guppies and theres like 10 left but bad condition then they have a variety of platy tanks and that makes me happy so ill probably end up with platies

Oh also guppies in our lfs dont have long flowing tails just small fantails thats it

Yeah that's very true, the same thing happened to my friend's Betta, but apart from getting ich he became an extreme tail biter - he ripped his tail to shreds out of the stress of having additions to his tank; which he was in before the others, poor we guy.

Well we wont know till we try if he is agressive i can always move him thats an option
