It's so sad that african dwarf frogs get subjected to much the same treatment bettas do :( I've been wanting one for awhile and I was wondering if it could coexist with a betta in both terms of temperament and environment, and if so, is there any special way to care for them? My betta, along with an apple snail, is currently in a ten gallon tank that's generally at 76-78 degrees F.

Thanks :)

yes they can go together, i had my male in an aquion mini bow five with a dwarf frog, and the ten gallon planted i just set up has3 frogs in it that i just got today. they do like to be in small groups. i used to feed mine shrimp pellets, and a massivor tab every now and then. they are fun to watch.

I had two frogs in a 25 litre tank with my betta. Everything was OK for months, then the frogs started grabbing the betta's tail when I put food in the tank. They are almost blind, smelled food and lunged for the moving thing - the betta. I had to separate them when the betta's tail stated to disappear. I wouldn't have frogs in with a superdelta again, though I might risk it with a plakat which has less tail for the frogs to get hold of.
The betta ended up with finrot, after several months his tail has only grown back to half the size it was before.

essjay,

did they only grab at the betta at feeding time? Because Moby, my betta, is a little piggy and it would probably end up being easier if I just separated them anyways. I usually just scoop him into the plastic cup he came in when I clean out the tank, and he doesn't run away or anything so he's real easy to catch...unless that would be too stressful for him to happen everyday?

Yes it was just at feeding time. I put the betta's floating pellets in, then the frogs' food in an upturned plantpot with a frog sized hole cut in the rim so the betta couldn't get at the frog food. When I opened the lid to put both food in, the betta dashed over, gobbled up his food then hung around waiting in case I gave him more. The frogs could smell both types of food so looked for it, saw the betta swimming round and assumed that he was food. Neither frogs or bettas are the brightest of creatures I'm afraid. What made me move the frogs to another tank was when I went back to this tank after feeding the other tanks and caught a frog being towed round the tank as it held on the the betta's tail.
