Would also like to add that mine has currently decalred war on my male dwarf gourami (they are same sort of colour) so my fighter is in the naughty corner in a breeding net till i cycle another tank for him

mhmm, gouramis and bettas are notorious for not getting along.
they occupy the same area of the tank, are distantly related, both labryinth fish, both territorial.
and the gourami is that bit bigger...i've seen many a poor betta shredded by a team of gouramis!

damn fish shop assuring me they would get on, although the betta is terrorising all 3 of my gourami and he is half the size! Ohh well he will have a nice big tank all to himself at the weekend.

there's always some exceptions.
i'd still be wary, for several months all could be fine, but then one day their might be one wrong fin move and all hell could break loose.

Most lfs stores say that any fish can get along but on lps wouldn't sell me any oto's when I said they would be in a 10 gallon with a betta. I got the oto's form another store and my betta loved the little guys he followed them around and would go and sit next to them.

Yes thats whats happened, all was well I was trying to get my corys to spawn and had the temperature down. That didnt work so the temperature went back up. The male gourami started bubble nesting and getting a bit grumpy thats when it all went down hill

My Betta gets along fine with my flame gourami and 2 barbs. he just chases them away if they come into his corner

Mine is in with 3 peppered corys and they get on like a house on fire.
