I currently have 1 plec (who's being rehoused) 2 Harlequin rasboras and 1 zebra danio.

I am thinking about a single male betta to add to this combination.

Would the current tank inhabitants be alright to remain with the betta ?

Also, could I have 3 cory's and shrimp too ?

Thats what I'd ideally love in my 55L tank which is 60cmx38x30.

Its sand substrate and live plants on their way!

ok first of all, would you be adding other fish after?

i have always found my bettas attack NEW inhabitants as they see it as their territory

if you put him in last, he should be ok in a community tank, but tetras tend to be nippy.

Its up to you at the end of the day, but i have a betta in a community tank with harlequins, neons and minnows

just be prepared to rehome someone in the event of nipping/bullying if you do try it

good luck which ever way you choose to go :good:

The rasboras will be very nippy, so i wouldn't recommend it.

Zebra Danios like to be in groups.

The best advice i can give is rehome the Rasboras and the Danio. And then Buy a Male Betta, Cories And shrimp, like you have said.
:)

Thanks everyone for your advice

The LFS did say to get the other fish first and the betta last

But they also said that the current tankmates would go fine with the betta - since he'd be coming into their territory

Would you agree / disagree with that ?

disagree, sorry.

Zebra danios are fiesty, he will prefer to be woith atleast 2 more :)
Rasboras, no experience but someone on here had them with a betta, betta wasnt too happy :/

but that depends on the individual betta, they each have their own personality

Agree. I have explained this a lot, but any schooler eg Danios, Rasboras, Tetras will nip and harass if not kept in a school of at least 6.

do u think i should increase the number of danios or rasboras then ?

If you don't have room for 6 of each, pick one species, buy more of them and take the other guys to the pet store.

I think keeping the rasboras around will work well, though... they are generally less nippy and slower than danios, and they have similar preferences in the strength of your filter current to bettas.

I'm agreeing with the others, danios are super-nippy, need a group of them to establish a heirarchy between them, even then I wouldn't put them with a better (that's me personally) Rasboras are pretty much the same so far as I know. I personally would rehome the zebra danio and rasboras, then get some cory (pref. group of 4+) and some shrimp, then your male betta :)

I must admit, I would NEVER have danios with ANY tank mates, I had them once and they made every other inhabitant miserable
