Hi,

I'm potentially getting a betta soon, depending on circumstances.

I've read a lot of the pinned topics and FAQS up above, but still have a question.

What water type do bettas prefer? Hard/soft water? acidic/neutral/alkaline pH?

Thanks for reading!

In general Bettas like slightly softer water with a ph marginally under 7 6.5 - 6.8 is pretty good. They are fairly tolerant tho and would probably be fine in anything up to ph7.5 if properly aclimitised. Not sure how well they handle hard water tho. I'm sure one of the experts will tell me if I'm wrong :D

Our Ph is about 7.5 in our Betta tanks and they are all fine. Like Glod suggested though they are quite tolerant as long as they are acclimatised properly. :)

My PH is close to 8, and the water is very hard, great for my mbuna. I get my bettas from an LFS that's less than a mile away, so same water. They (the bettas) do very well, no health problems, beautiful colors, very active, and they eat like horses. So yes, they are VERY tolerant of different water conditions.

My ph is 8.5 and water is hard but they do adjust if acclimatised slowly :D

You can also use indian almond leaves or black water extract to help lower the levels for them.
