I just noticed a strange growth, like a bump, near my betta's mouth. I'm not sure what it is or how to treat it.

He seems to be behaving as normal. The growth is not discolored or white. What is it and how do I treat it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is the betta new to you? I mean, I was wondering if it had it all along and you only just noticed or is it something that's just appeared where there was nothing before?

I had a female with a lump on her head which I noticed after I got her home. She was perfectly fine eating, fighting etc but has recently died of dropsy after having her for 4 months. I've often wondered if it was the lump on her head :/

Don't really know what to suggest but can only think keep the water super duper clean :dunno:

Thanks for responding. :) I'm sorry about the fish you lost.

I've had this Betta for about 5 months. The growth is definately new. I noticed it this morning when I went to feed him. I showed it to my husband and he agreed it wasn't there before. He appears perfectly fine otherwise.

I'd like to treat it appropriately, but I'm not sure what it is. He's a really spectacular fish and I'd hate to loose him.

If it is dropsy, everything I've read says there is not much you can do. I saw some meds at the pet store, but I don't know if they work.
