Betta Took A Turn, Please Look.

Update just got home looked at him and on the tip of his fins he has cotton wool like growth.

I'd treat him with myxazin for 5 days. It's a fungus and maybe finrot. Mine had the same recently. Go buy some Myxazin from ebay or your lfs. Do a 50% water change then dose with the myxazin. Treat his tank with the myxazin daily for 5 days then on the 6th day do another 50% water change and he should have improved by then.

Could you post a pic of him? Even if its a poor one so we can see what you're talking about. I still want to rule out parasites. Also you in UK or US? meds will differ depending.
cheers

I'm with Loraxchick on this, it doesn't look like finrot. Sorry to hear hes not doing to wee Dav

if you could get another pic of him that would help no end

the fungus on his fins could be a secondary infection due to his already weekend condition. i second adding salt as a general tonic rather than medicating for a secondary infection rather than the cause.

Lorax thanks for your reply I never seen this repley last night or I would have taken a picture right away. Sad news he never made it through the night I got up at 6am to find him in the bottom of the tank  .

Guys and gals, I would like to thank you all for your help, but bully did not make it through the night, if I'm been 100% honest I have no idea myself what it was that caused this, my waters where all in order and I did everything by the book, he was in the 10gal tank with 2 albino cory to start with, but then the albino got moved to my 55gal tank to go with the other albino cory because they like to be in groups as we all know, (so he had 10gal to himself) and then the day after I move them he takes this turn, do you think that could have anything to do with it or just coincidence? I just want to try find a answer or understand to learn from this and stop anything like this happening again, I spoke to the shop where I got him from and they said he could be anywhere from 1/3 old he said we don't sell many that why's we have so few and they can sit in out tanks for a while, so chances a it was his time, but that does not explain why the clamped fins and cotton like growth that started yesterday, or does it?

Thanks for taking the time to read the little essay.

Regards Dav.

In all likelihood was not your fault. He probably was carrying some sort of infection when you got him. Im still convinced it was some sort of parasite so watch your other fish for symptoms such as flicking or rubbing against objects in the tank. rapid breathing/gasping, thick slimecoat or paling of color, spitting out food, getting bloated or skinny despite normal feeding habits, lethargy, etc. not to scare you but something to keep an eye out for.
There are ALWAYS nasites in the tank that can make our fish sick. Healthy fish can fight it off 99% of the time. Stress, harassment from tankmates or poor water can weaken the fish's immune system and their ability to fight off these things. My guess is he was not well when you got him :(
Better luck with the next boy.
all the best
cheers

Your post have really helped me lorax :good:

I think you must be right with what you thought, I now have something else to look out for, this is something I have never experienced before he turned so fast, over night infact, i have taken the tank down and cleaned it all out and put it into storage going to concentrate on my 190l tank for the time being, when I feel right I will start a fish less cycle on the 10 gal ready for a new boy when the time is right.

Thanks again for your help and time. :good:

Good luck with your Betta they are wonderful fish and a joy to keep, just keep a look out for anything, because as you have seen in my case it can just turn overnight.
