I spotted my convict trying to eat my betta fry, he did however get 1 before I could save both. Right now my current 1 is in a breeding net waiting for his new tank Im buying for him. I am going to try to get a 3 gallon but will he be alright in a 2 gallon? Im asking because I see many of you hold bettas in a 2.5 gallon and no less.

I keep mine in 1 gallons bowls to 1 gallon kritter keepers

OMG frank .... I thought everyone told you already not to put ANYTHING else in with the convicts?!?!?!?

i keep my bettas in 2.5's for the sole reason that they can be heated more easily... my house stays pretty cold. 1 gallon for a betta is OK provided you do frequent partial waterchanges and keep the room warm enough.

I keep my betta mostly in 1 gal. My house turn up to 80 degree ferenheit. I hate cold. LOL :)

Like Joker mentioned, I use 1 gallon Kritter Keepers. They're very inexpensive, and they have nice secure lids. I've had really good luck with them.

Yup. One gallon kritter keeper. I just got my parcel 2 dozens. They are cheap if you get in ebay! $2 something each. Wou. they are made in Japan!!! wou!!! LOL Got japan stem on those plastic .

A 1 gal is ok for a betta, but a 2.5 or more is easier cause it can be cycled easier, and if you don't cycle, you don't have to do water changes as often as with a 1 gal. And with a 2.5 or greater, you can keep an AFD in with them for some company.

Edited to add: I have heated a 1 gal bowl with a 25 watt adjustable temp. heater after many days of testing to get the temp right, and many more days after to make sure it stayed the same. Worked like a charm.

I laugh everytime I read. Wou. everyone is totally different. I accept that. LOL
As for me, a new breeder, my house is already set up 80 degree ferenheit. I am worst than my bettas. LOL Yes. I have to change water everytime. But I have plan in two months. I am building a 80 to 100 barracks. LOL I think 1 gallon each tank is good enough right? LOL :D
Of course 2.5 gallon is the best and I won't mind you guys get a 5 gallon tank too and it is the best of all! I do recommanded to people always get bigger the better. :)

lol ok ill try to get the biggest possible but i think i can only fot a 1 gallon bowl, ill try for a 2 or 2.5 gallon.

I keep in mine in at least 1 gallon bowls

at the office, the temp is fine but at home, it is too cold so i got a 25 watt heater and it works just fine to keep temp at 78-79. It takes about one hour to get the temp just right!

I just have to change the water at least once a week.

My Betta in the 5 gallon tank enjoys doing laps in the tank, but he does not really make full use of the tank. The ones in the 2.5 (12" long) gallon tanks seem pretty happy too and go from end to end when they are in the mood.

I house two in 1.25 gallon 8" long tanks, and that does not seem to be enough for them to stretch their legs so I keep my smaller fish in there.

One reason why I feel the need for larger tanks is half my betta's are medium to large 2"+ plakats. But anything over a gallon should be fine for most fish. The advantage of the smaller tanks is making water changes is easier.

So many answers! Basically all I can divulge from the posts of others are-
The very minimum is 1 gallon, the most reccomended is 2.5 gallon bowls or 1 gallon Kritter Keepers. They're the blue plastic ones, aren't they?

yeah, critter keepers ar eblue plastic. They are practical as they are cheap and small but all your fish will be blue or black!

I like glass bowls (the classic goldfish bowl) witch are flat on the front and the back but that's up to you

a split 5 gallon, IMO, is the best as 5 gallon tanks are cheap, they're big enough to put a heater and small filter and you can keep 2 fish in there with a divider

well i picked up a 1 gallon bowl, how many times a week should i do water changes? I am going to get a 2.5 gallon later on but thats all the petshop had right now  this is post 300 :D :D :D

I would change water at the very least once a week
make sure it is the same temp as the water you are taking out (if it is room temp, this should be easy)

don't feed your bettas too muhc food and you should be good. if you feed too much, they will most likely produce more waste and water will be toxic quicker
