Hrrm, I'm not sure myself...I bought the cabinet that goes with it, and it basically came in a flat pack. It was really easy to set up though, and the cutaway backing is very useful-so you can hide the cables and extension in the bottom of the stand!
The dimensions of the stand are just about the same as the tank, and it stands at about 2.5 foot? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, as that's a guess.
I believe my stand was about £30, so if you can afford it, it's better to be safe than sorry! But think-on average a heater will cost between £15 to £20, and you're getting that free with the tank.

As long as the surface you keep the tank on is level and reasonably sturdy it will be fine. The whole thing will probably weigh about 30 kilos/67 pounds when full so if you can sit on the support without fear then it will be fine :)
I have a 25 litre tank sitting on my flat packed computer desk and it's fine. I have a 10 gallon that sits on a printer cabinet with no ill effects. The stands that are made for the tank are quite nice tho if you have space to use one. It does add another £25 or so to the total cost.
Get the tank, seat it on a sturdy desk or unit and use the money to buy the fish and some plants instead of the stand :D Tank mate wise, I have Amano Shrimp and Otocinclus in with my Betta, I have had Corydoras in there too, but moved them to the community tank so they'd have more room. Tank mates very much depend on your Betta, some of the smaller corys might be fine if your fish will tolerate them. Otos are great at dealing with the early algae, but they are sensitive and may suffer in a new tank.

Ive got one very similar and im going to divide it and have two bettas in it, and one similar but a different make has my 5 girlies in
