Betta Tank Mates For 5 Gallon

I'm only a newbie so I can't really help with tankmate suggestions, but I just wanted to say your tank looks lovely :) beautiful betta!

It's a very nice set up, and such a beautiful Betta! :)

Have you ever considered adding some floating plants? I've once ordered some dwarf water lettuce which sadly did not arrive well, but I'd like to try again! :)

TY :) Funny you should mention floating plants, my wife and I were considering trying to grow either lotus or Lilly flowers on top of this tank. Only problem is that the light bar hangs so low over the surface of the water, was trying to think of ways to avoid burning the flowers. I suggested simply removing the lights and using a desk lamp with a cfl bulb but the wife thinks it would ruin the.look of the tank so I think I will try.to fabricate some way of extending the arm for the current lights.

Nice setup but I recommend removing the bamboo as it is not an aquatic plant and will eventually rot and foul your tank.  Everything else looks great.  You can get some aquatic lilly plants that grow from the bottom of your tank and send big leaves to the top, those are really nice.  I wouldn't advise pond plants indoors just because most of the time it just doesn't work out the way you want them to.  :)

I did not have a good experience with a betta and dwarf frog together.  Not because of the above listed reason although I can see how that could be a problem with some.  My issue was the dwarf frog was slower and of course had very limited sight.  Feeding was a mess.  The betta would scarf his food down and then eat all the frog's food therefor leaving the frog hungry and the betta horrendously bloated.  There are ways to make it work with situations like that like removing one or the other while feeding but to me that is more work than I wanted to put into it so I moved betta to another tank.  In a 5 gallon, I suggest a nerite snail.  They are beautiful and are great to clean algae. Shrimp are a hit or miss because most bettas will relish that kind of treat.
Agree feeding the 2 is hard and messy. I tried keeping the dwarf frog with a betta way back in the day. It did not go well. They did not like each other. amanos shrimp are really hardy and good size they are bad ass shrimp don't take **** from no one. These guys would do well with a betta. They can't breed in fresh water. I have cherry shrimp with on betta in a planted tank it's ok my betta picks in them but they are too big to eat. Baby shrimp don't stand a chance.

I will disagree about the nerite snail. They are pretty and eat algae but do more pooping then cleaning. These snails poop more then plecos it's amazing how much they poop. They add to your bio load a lot so keep that in mind. And the white eggs that stick to everything .
