Betta Tank FINISHED photo journal

Still here? Well then maybe I'll explain what's up.

I bought some more plants today:

Vallisneria
Hair Grass
More Jave Moss

--The vallis were free!!! I asked if he had any, and he said he only had left-overs from their last shipment. They're not the nicest, so free-bies!! They're not that bad, they'll grow back eventually, and they already have side-shoots.

another tank photo-- you can see the hair grass better here.

I hope I'm not interrupting  I think that looks amazing!! What a beautiful tank full of healthy fish and plants. I am very impressed

NO INTERRUPTION SORREL!! GLAD YOU LIKE!!

I purposely left almost all the snails on the new plants. So now, I definitely know I have pest snails in my tank--

or should I say, botia treats!! I finally found zebra loach!!!

The newest, and maybe last addition to my asian tank. A single zebra loach. Before you pounce on me for not buying buddies for him, let me explain.

The shop keepers did NOT even know they had him. Their last shipment of zebra loaches was months ago!! No one noticed him this whole time-- because he was in a tank full of clown plecos who also have orange/black stripes.

I was lucky enough to notice something digging in the substrate, and though "clown plecs don't dig . . ." And so I got him. He was the only one they had. No better off in my tank than theirs. I hope he befriends either my SAE or kuhli loaches, because they are his best options . . . :/

But I love him!!!!

The shop keeper at this LFs I discovered is SUPER cool. Besides giving me free vallis, he showed me the shops secret stock of peppermint shrimp they keep in the back!! Today, he sold me 2 for $6 (the normal price is 5 dollars each)!

I spotted a female with eggs, so he nabbed her. Eventually, they're going into my 5 gal, but their chilling in this bucket until my females' eggs hatch. Don't want the young shrimp to end up as fish food.

And yay for free plants and nice lfs guys! I have a nice lfs guy (yeesh, I'm making it sound like we own 'em or something  ), too.

Thankz Liz, just for you, here's a pic of my cooly loaches chillaxing in the grass. Out in the open!! :hyper:

Anyway, zebra is currently hiding under the rock the kuhlis used to hide under. I'll try to get some when he relaxes a bit.

Ooooh, I feel special - you posted a picture just for me B)

Adorable Kuhlis! How many do you have? I have two...I thought they'd always be hiding and that I'd never see 'em, but I see 'em quite often. They're so cute and growing so fast!

Hair grass is an aquatic plant, though I daresay not the cheapest. On a scale of 1-5, this plant is about a 2.3 in difficulty. The main concern is that fish poo, dead leaves and othe junk can get caught in it, and it will start to dye from its photosynthesis and respiration being inhibited by that trash. By keeping the plant with kuhli loaches like I have, or cory cats are another good option, you will minimize this problem. Still, the grass should be disturbed regularly to loosen caught trash.
