Betta swim bladder disease

My koi betta has swim bladder, I think…
he’s been floating to the top of the tank for most of the day and when he tries to swim down it’s a struggle for him, like usually he just goes down as he pleases but now he has to really try to swim down. What are the best things I can do right now to help him heal?

Unfortunately, if it is a swimbladder problem there isn't really all that much that can be done to help/ fix it. Its a real shame sorry

What is the tank setup? What does he eat? It could be caused by constipation or stress.

Sounds like swimbladder. I would First turn up The temp a few degrees. Then you can fast him for a couple day (3 or 4). THen you can feed him a cut up pea ( I don’t prefer that) or some pellets if he looks bette

That’s not 100% true. There’s many remedies that we can try . Swimbladder is a hard to solve case but I’ve done it many times

yeah yeah definalty, I've personally never had success with it and i known because of the breeding of bettas they can be a little bit more sensitive. You can try certiang things out, but on a small fish it can be a bit tickier

If a fish is floating and can't stay down in the water, it could have air in its intestine. this is usually caused by too much dry food and the fish taking in air while eating food at the surface.

If you stop feeding dry food for a week and use frozen or live instead, the problem often resolves itself. Feeding the betta some mushed up peas (without their skin) can sometimes help too.

If the fish still can't swim down and floats up when it stops swimming after a week without dry food, then it has a swim bladder problem.

Right now he is in a small 2.5 gallon divided tank. It’s just a temporary tank until I can get a 10-5 gallon. He eats tetra small pellets. About 2-3 per day

Ok, are the pellets floating? Does he have a heater? I saw your other thread, about your smashed tank. You’re doing your best! He could be constipated or have swallowed air eating pellets. If that’s the case, don’t feed him for 3 days them give him a very small amount of thawed, peeled pea. He could also be stressed. Do your best to maintain the water quality, make sure he cannot see the other betta, and if you don’t have a heater you should buy one as quickly as possible. My first betta had this issue on and off for a long time when I didn’t have a heater for her. I started adding two scoops of hot water to her bowl every day and she got sooooo much better. (That was my first betta amd I’ve since learned from what I did wrong with her bowl and no heater and such)

Feeding the betta some mushed up peas (without their skin) can sometimes help too.

Great Advice! I always personally feed mashed peas once a week to prevent bloating.

This type of thing never used to be a problem but inbreeding Bettas has weakened them considerably and makes things like this much more common.

Yeah the pellets do float. As of right now they do not have a heater yet.
