Ive just introduced my new betta to his 64Litre home (will get more betta friendly fish in the future) but the poor sod seems to be getting drawn into the filters intake :(

He comes over to check it out then it pulls him in and he cant seem to pull off so i have to switch off the filter to let him get free.

What can I do to slow that down if anything? ive tried the bottle technique but the silly sod swims into the opening :/

depending on the type of filter, I have AC filters and what I did was to take a replacement sponge and then cut off a piece and with a rubber band attach it over the end of the filter intake. that seems to help with the fish and it doesn't slow the filter any.

some filters have something on it where you can slow down the flow, i have never heard of a betta being sucked up by the filter unless the betta was sick to begin with.
i might ask how his health is and what type of filter you are using to see if i, or someone a little more knowladgble could help

I have noticed that no matter how much I slowed the flow from the filter down, by bettas seemed uncomfortable. I have decided to go without a filter and have added plants. They all seem much happier!!!

HTH

Whatever the filter is in that.

I dont think its sick as as soon as I cut the power he shot off and explored the tank :/

Doesn't matter now though as ive moved him to a 2.5 gal tank, stuck some sponge in that ones filter out flow to kill the current and he seems much better :)

2 of my Betta's got sucked into my filter..
I Thought they were jumping out, till i smelled something wierd, coming from my HOB Filter, they both got stuck in the inlet tube.. I couldnt even notice a flow difference because i had a thing reducing the flow anyway.

I reccomend put a cap on it, or put a stocking or somethiong over it

how do you slow the flow.. the only thing i have on my filter that seems like any sort of switch, is a blue thing half way up the intake tube that opens little opening to either allow more water in, or it allow water to eascape while its travelling up the tube.. im not even sure its purpose.

any one know?

You could always try a spray bar.. I;ve got a bigish filter in one of my tanks, and it was fast flowing so I added a spray bar to it.. That way the flow doesn't get affected, and the water gets spread out along the top and is not so direct.
*and sorry to bum the stocking idea out, but if you do that then the bigger particles will only get jammed up on the outside of the stocking and the filter can;t do its job properally then*
