My neighbor was walking outside with a bag and a female betta as was about to chuck it into the bin, I said to him ill take it off you - dont put it in the bin, so he gave it to me, so now I have a female betta, abit fin nipped but in good condition, my question is - if i put my dwarf gouram into my other 20 gallon with my kribs, could I put the female betta in with the tetras and corys?

Betta will be fine with cories and tetras, what tetras are they though? Some can be nippy but Ive never experiences this with any of my tetras =]
As if they were gonna throw a live fish in the bin!!!

Yeah, I've had 2 bettas since starting fish keeping and both have been with all sorts of tetras including neons and have never had a problem =]

I'd be more worried about the gourami and kribs together.

Can't you set up a little 5 gallon tank for her?

The betta should be fine with neons, plenty of water changes (every other day perhaps) and good food will be the best for preventing fin rot or infection and promoting regrowth.

Agree with soybean though, the gourami and kribs may present an issue, I'd be vigilant about that...

The gourami and kribs seem fine and staying their distance but the betta wont eat - i tried flakes but she doesnt want them, and she keeps leaning on the pump and heater, is this normal?

If you've only just added her you need to give her time to settle in.

I don't expect fish to eat for up to a week after being added to the tank... although it depends how old they are (younger fish are a different story).

Try again tomorrow evening :good:

She's been through a lot. Be patient. She may take a few days to get an appetite going, especially if she's used to other food.

Keep up with small regular waterchanges.

How strong is the filter? Do you know if she had one before?

My filter is strong on full blast for current, and the guy had her in a 1 gallon bowl with 1 neon with no filter or heater, his neon died today and he decided he didnt want the betta so he was about to chuck her in the bin

Poor things.

The current may be too strong for her - are you sure there's no other way you can keep her? They do so much better in smaller tanks, with very gentle filters. Bettas tire out so quickly and she doesn't sound well as it is.

Even a small storage container with a heater and air pump may be better, vacuuming waste and changing some water daily, until she perks up a bit.

Well i have a small 5 gallon cycled with pump and filter - should I put her in there and I was thinking about if I left her in the 20g should I add 3 more females for her?

No need to add others, and I wouldn't be thinking that far ahead just yet, wait til she's well.

5 galls is a good size - is there anything else in it? Can you turn the filter flow right down?
