looking at love4aquatics siggie it looked just like one of my boys. So I have just been taking a few photos. I wish I could get the hang of this new camera I used to take lovely close ups with my old one but I cant seem to do it with this one.

I love the fourth betta, dont name them now, superstitious!, but he has a tumour on his side doesnt stop him bubble nesting though.
 
They are all lovely but the first one really caught my eye.....such an unusual colour.
 
I got a lovely new one this weekend but I dont want to freak him out he is everso shy :hyper:

Light coloring in a lot of animals is a sign of ill health. For example, all-white cats often have the unintended side effect of being deaf. A form of albinism that occurs in horses is actually lethal. In some animals, incomplete albinism produces immune system deficiencies, which is possibly (meaning IMO) what happens to light colored Bettas. A lot of times inbreeding has been used to produce the genes for light coloration, as with this malformed white tiger.

I'm always very cautious when I see albinos in pet stores. Because albinism is a rare gene, I often suspect inbreeding has been used to produce the gene. That alone could result in all kinds of health problems, but albinism or partial albinism causes it's own set of problems. It looks pretty, but the number of animals that have to suffer to get it right just doesn't seem fair. Even if the creature looks lovely in the store, light-colored animals often don't live very long. D':
