ok quick question,
if my betta is lying on the bottom sometimes is this SBD? and if it is what can i do ?

also .. the fins on my betta hang limp .. and lifeless.. not at all like the pictures of some bettas .. why is that ??

yup my boyfriend that he was resting too, cause that's what his betta did.

but mine didn't rest on the bottom to begin with, then again i've only had him for a fewweeks ..

but thank u for that :)

My males tend to rest on the bottom while the females rest near the surface. Not sure why they do that.

The pictures may be of the fish 'flaring'. This is when they stiffen their fins and extend their beards to display. They do this to some other fish, especially fighters, and to their own reflection. :)

Remember, Betta's are really lazy fish ;)

have you really got him in a 160 gallon tank?!
well yeah i know it's a big tank for the lil guy .. but well he's not alone ?? it's just like the small tank he was in when i bought him... now he's space has just grown a lil that's all ..

 is that bad ???

he might be resting because he's tired out from swimming to the top of the tank to breath.
it would be hard work with such a big tail holding him down

thats a big tank for a betta.

I agree. If the tank is too big, the betta may have trouble making all of those exhausting trips to the surface for air and may have to stop and rest more often.

How tall is the 160g? Surely it wouldn't be much taller than a smaller capacity tank.

oh jeepers .. i never thought that he would be uncomfortable in a big tank ..

but he seemed just fine when i first put him in .. it was only until a few weeks after that, that he started 'resting', he was swimming all over the place and he looked like he was enjoying himself ..

it's a 6'x'2'x2'

is that how ur suppose tp express it ?? i'm not too good with feet and inches ..

I see you have a rainbow shark in the tank. Notice it chasing the betta any? They can be very territorial. The clamped fins can be a result of stress. Thats the first sign. The betta might be bored, or tired from swimming so much. it might swim around more at times you don't see, early morning, during the day, etc. Keep watching it and post a message if the symptoms change. You might tape a small mirror to the outside of the tank in the area where the betta seems to be staying more. If it sees itself, it will think it's another male, and flare at it. This gives it something to do, and will unclamp the fins as it flares, which helps to prevent fin problems. I looked again, and saw there was 2 male guppys. Guppys have flowing tails, like male bettas. The male may decide sometime to fight them. The guppys will lose.
