I'm thinking of getting a betta our home office... but I'm worried if all the computers and stuff will have a bad effect on the fish.

We have TONS of electrical stuff in there, which runs 24/7. But it's the most stable place in the house as far as temperature goes..

Do you think it would be safe? No bad radiation or anything?

I spend the majority of my time in my home office when I am at home. We have 2 computers running almost 24/7. I have 2 10G tanks, one 1G tank, 1 2.25G tank, 1 5G tank and one 20G tank in the room. The fish are all fine so I wouldn't worry about it. When friends come over they say they should have to pay admission to my "aquarium" because I have so many fish in such a small room!

Thanks. :) I know I'm being a bit paranoid but there's all this hysteria about certain appliances like mobiles and stuff causing cancer if you're exposed to them too often... and this office has 3 computers, a massive server, a printer, fax machine, photocopier/scanner, 2 regular phones and a cordless. All these gizmos run all the time....

Now I think of it, numerous people on this forum have bettas at work in offices... but just to be sure, keep those replies coming please. :)

I have 2 Bettas sitting maybe 6-7 inches away from this monitor. One that I had here was bothered by the electronic noise and my keyboard (very skittish little guy...jumps at EVERYTHING!), but these two currently sitting here have been fine. One has been here probably 1-2 months, thereabouts, and he hasn't shown any ill effects. If anything, I think he loves the attention brought from being next to the computer.

Yeah, they'd get more company... thanks. :)

Anyone else have experiences/advice?

are you worried about heat issues or something else? the room should have a very stable temp w/ all that hardware....if you're worried about electrical/microwave/magnetic signals, then

I find bettas to be pretty calm fish. The only thing I would worry about would be temperature. Course if theres a place thats 76-80 F or so 24/7, should be a great spot. :) In fact, I wish I had a spot like that in my home.

You're a nutter OoohFeeshy!! Hey, I'm surrounded all day at work by PCs and radio emitting stuff, and I come home and sit in front of computers and stuff all night, eating micrwaved food! What am I gonna mutate into???? Blimey! Actually it starts to explain a lot.......

It will be perfectly fine
Here is the order of things on my desk, from left to right...
Jasper's tank, Charlie's tank, laptop, xtra-large computer monitor, boombox, phone, Lucky's tank, then Six's tank.

Lucky freaks out when I'm using my mouse because the cord moving disturbs him, but then me BREATHING disturbs him so I ignore him :) Everybody else does just fine around here.

The only thing I'd warn you about with all of it is make sure that your tank isn't in direct line with the fan that blows hot air out the back of a computer - it can wreak havoc with tank temps.

Thanks for the advice BM. :)
