hi everyone .my betta has popeye and iv been told to move him to a diffrent home to treat him, as its not good to treat the whole tank and my other fish..
i dont have a extra tank but i have a large glass goldfish bowl ( no other fish are in it) and i was wondering if he could move in to this while i treet him..my only problem is that i dont have a heater for it and to tell u the truth there is no way i can affored a new heater..and my olds are not going to fork out for one (iv allready asked) and i dont know anyone with a spare one...

last thing i want to do is kill my betta..when iv just spent the last week trying to save him.

thanks
candy

half of my betta tanks have no heaters and they are all fine, i've had 1 for 6 or 7 months now with no heater and he's very happy, but my room is warm to begin with so make sure you put him in a warm room where the temperatures won't drop constantly

thanks thats wonderfull to know..ok i will put him in the lounge since its the warmest room in the house and the heater is on 24/7 in there

next question is how do i introduce him to the cold water......????

Hiya Candy, from what ive heard, if youve got like a plastic cup, rinse that out,

put his own tank water in there with him,

float it in the goldfish bowl ur moving him into,

slowly add a little bit of the colder water at a time into the cup until he is almost in half his warm water, and half cold water,

then tip him into the goldfish bowl

he should be ok, but just keep an eye on him, and mayb a tempterature check, to make sure he doesn have a huge drop in water temps.

also, make sure you use some tapsafe in the fresh water in the goldfish bowl.

or better still, use tank water from his orginal tank to half fill the gold fish bowl.

if his water in the goldfish bowl does start to drop, wrap the bowl up with a towel (around it), or fill a fizzy drink bottle with warmer water, and keep changing it wen it goes cold.

hope this helps, but as i say, im not 1000% sure this is exactly right, mayb if im slightly wrong, or off course with the amounts of water, some1 cud tell you.

thanks so much for that.....mum said i can leave the heater on in the lounge all night so the room stays warm...for the water in the bowl iv just taken some of the water out of the tank fulled up the bowl and let it come to room temp..dont want to have a prob with ph and stuf when fishy is already sick.

yay thanks for all that i will go do it now...slowly :)

Hiya Candy, how is your betta doing now that he is settled in the colder water ? Did adding the new water to a plastic cup go ok ?

he is doing grate...i think he might like his smaller home just a bit ...he is geting lots of attenshion from the rest of my family since he is in the lounge.. i just wish his pop eye would clear up..cup worked wonderfully..very good idea.thanks so much for all the quick replys..u guys are the best

I never treated my betta when he got pop eye, He kind of cured himself in a week and a half. I dont like to use chemicals and stuff.

i also dont like chemicals but i left him for a week..doing water changes every seccond day..... ect but he has not come right and i realy love him, not just because he looks good, but he has lovely personality and my bf gave him to me for out 6months..and he is special and it took me ages to find him..i wanted one i realy liked, looked in like 12 diffrent pet shops for him.
and ya i want him to get better..

if i could just leave him to get better i would but i dontthink he is going to do it on his own

What I normally do, is put my smaller jugs/bowls under a light fixture, or near one that produces heat. Also, on my main tank, i place some of the bowls ontop of the strip light. It always keeps the water a comfortable warm temp. making your fish more content within their environment.

Another way to heat a smaller container is to sit it in a 5 gal bucket. Hang a small light over the side of the bucket. You can cover the top of the bucket just enough to control the temperature with a towel. Depending on the size of the light, you may need to cover partway, or not at all. I use this method hatching my brineshrimp. The water will stay at 82 degrees constantly. Most meds work better if the water is near the 80 degree temperature. Some actually work better around 84. Depending on your situation, you can adjust the temp with the towel. Make it a very small light. I use a small diameter bulb, like one you use for decorations, etc. You can get the complete socket, wiring and bulb for less than 8.00 at a hardware store. Hope this helps.
