Was feeding my betta's this morning. They are in a divided ten gallon. I looked closely at one of them and noticed he has a white spot. I compared him to some pictures online and sure enough he has it. I don't think my other betta has it but I know it is only a matter of time. What is the best course of action? I'm going to test the water as soon as my son goes to school but last time it was tested it was fine. Can I used aquarium salt for them? Do I need to change out the filter (I would like to avoid this if possible), and a friend of mine gave me some medication for ich that she didn't need but I'm not sure if I should use it?

I'm not a happy camper right now. Seems like since we've been starting to able to get fish it's one problem or another. Had three die so far. Had to take danio's back because I didn't realize they needed a bigger tank. Took forever to get the damn things cycled to begin with.

I don't want to give up but I really didn't realize how difficult this was going to be, lol.

first thing you should do is turn up your heater to 30o. this shortens the life span of the bug itself. the next step is up to you. you can treat with salt or medication. medication is easier but alot of aquarists dont like using meds if they can get away with it. it doesent bother me and is my prefered method. a really good treatment is king british ws3. its very effective. should have your fish cleared up in about 10 days. please dont let things like white spot put you off keeping fish. its all experience. once you get used to little things like this its such a rewarding hobby. the possitives will definatly outway the negitives. do for me. goodluck.

I'm trying not too. It's just irritating right now.

I think we are going to start just ordering fish online or getting them straight from a breeder. We keep going to the pet stores and end up with problems, lol.
Thanks for the info bigcheed!
