Anyone had experiences of mixing a Male Betta with Male Guppys?

Yes when I first started keepign tropicals, I was told by my LFS that they would be fine together

However within one week six of my guppies had been killed by the Betta. (I did not understand what was happening at the time) I found out that the Betta was the responsible party when I saw him laying into Guppy number 7 and tearing chunks out of his fins.

Just one example of the "GREAT" advice given by LFS's that do not have experienced staff

NEVER EVER mis these two species!!

I've had a similar experience with female betta and male guppies. I had them together for 5 minutes at the most (while changing around tanks). When I went to check on them, the female betta was locked onto the guppy's caudal fin and wouldn't initially let go! She made his spine really crooked with a large kink in it. I wouldn't recommend doing what you suggest, as I figure the male bettas would be even more cruel!
