Betta & Goldfish

cold water fish with tropical fish no....
and goldfish will attempt to eat anythin smaller than them!

Simple, short and sweet, concise, succinct, no frills, no beating around the bush answer is:

No way, no how.

i wouldnt do it b/c goldfish hold one thing that bettas hate, nice tails
but to correct what has been said above, goldfish may be primarily coldwater but they do tolerate a temp of up to 30 degrees celcius,

yea.. thats y i asked. i thought they couldnt be kept together because of the ammonia and the temp difference...

I have actually seen a male betta living with a tank full of goldfish in an LFS, and well, everybody looked happy but ... I wouldn't do it either

i gave my daughter 3 females I breed that stayed with 4 gold fish so yes they can. gold fish can be kept in higher temp than most people think. daughter tank was kept at around 24-5 degrees C.

Goldfish are also huge waste produces....And will eat anything they can fit in their mouths.

For 4 goldfish the tank would need to be at least 60gallons.

Goldfish also need a good water flow and thrive best in cooler temperatures. Bettas prefer little or no flow so it wouldn't be a great combination IMO. :/

I agree with all the no's. I had a common gold fish that tried to eat one of my Bettas, was not happy so she now lives in a big pond in my brothers garden. Plus she was never really happy in a heated tank.

I got two goldfish about 7 years ago as rescues from the LFS and started them out in a 10 gallon.. They're now both HUGE! I have them in a 48 gallon and will probably move them to a 75 this spring.. And DIRTY! OMG. They are regular poop machines! I have the biggest size filter made in there with them and it could be more. They're so big that feeding them flake food is kind of a joke so I got them some koi pellets.
Fred is literally a real handfull.. He's close to 16 inches long or so. A guy I trust told me to give them lots of salt in their tank which I do.
They like it cold so their tank is at room temp. Finally, the plec in there is big enough not to be eaten by them. He got to be pretty saavy about sliding over when they came around. I had to put in some hiding spots for him.
They love to chase each other all day long. In their world, this must seem like an earthquake! Fred comes up to the surface and makes a big splash like a whale!
I had it planned to give them to a friend with a pond until one day I was waiting for the clerk in Pet Schmart with all these people who were there to get more koi for their ponds because wildlife had eaten the others. This is when I bought them a 48 gallon tank...

So, in answer to your question, no probably not.
