betta getting scared?

I have had my betta for about a month and a half, I change his water once a week, letting it settle for 24 hours and putting conditioner in it as well. Recently he has been acting weird, when I go near the tank he goes crazy and swims kinda spasticly, like he got scared, he makes sudden jerky movements. He doesnt seem to be eating a lot, kinda worried any imput would be appreciated! thank you

What size tank is he in? If he is in a communtiy tank then what are his tank buddies? if it is around a 1 to 2 gallon tank just for him he need a water change every 2 - 3 days.

Check your water for ammonia,nitrite,nitrate, and ph, can the fish maintain it's balance in the water.

he is in a 1 gallon tank, i will be changing his water more often now. He is alone, and sry if it sounds stupid, but how do i check all those levels?

In order to test you need to buy a test kit. Make sure to get one that includes ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and possibly ph.

i will, most likely go buy the kit tomorrow, im just worrying now, that im not going to see him swimming around tomorrow morning any ideas on my he could be acting so "scared"? Also as of now he seems to be resting near the top of the tank on his little plant that I have in there
