Betta Forum

ok, now i'm having trouble imagining a question that only a mod can answer which also has to be answered in 24 hours or less.

you'd be surprised at the number of questions which can be answered by the other board members. if you have a fishy question in need of immediate response, then obviously you ought to post it in Emergencies. and i would suggest that if you have an administrative question that needs a quick response, then you should post it in Announcements and Suggestions. (of course, if a question involves sensitive or private information, sending a pm to a mod is definitely the superior approach.) a lot of the long-term members frequent this section and generally they're familiar enough with the way things work around here to give an "unofficial" answer.

exactly, i've asked stuff before and got perfectly acceptable answers almost immediately from people who've been around a while which have been later backed up by a mod.

also i've only used the report button once but I found the situation was dealt with almost immediately.

A lot of people don't know the report bit is there or just decide to take matters into they're own hands and start a row instead of reporting it. Like all the trolls we get on here, don't flame them, just ignore them and report them. They'll soon be gone and the forum will be a much nicer happier place without all these rows all over the place.

Also I'd just like to say a massive thankyou to all the mods, it is a big committment and I think you do a marvelous job :flowers:

Miss Wiggle!! I love your marine tank, I just saw the link in your sig. It's lovely

With that said- I repeat, most of us are here everyday, and as Anna said a few of us go anonymous for reasons of our own. And I don't buy the bit that only a mod can answer certain questions regarding fish. Maybe once upon a time- but not anymore. I'm proud of the fishy people we have around here, with all of them all together we have a wealth of knowledge!

Most of the questions regarding fish I agree can be answered by non-mods and I agree further that the people on this forum are great and know what they're talking about but like someone said, some questions regarding personal info that need to be sent directly to the mods sometimes cant be answered right away because of the lack of mods being on(meaning not anonymous or just not online). Like I know that when i first joined I had a hell of a time figuring out what mods even were because i never saw them on. Didnt mean to cause a fuss on this particular thread but some of you may have taken what I said the wrong way.

I dunno... it has only been recently, but I've got to admit I have noticed a bit of a problem with the Betta section. It's understandable that members are expected to use the report button, but I can think of one thread in particular that went 2-3 days in need of moderation (partly my own fault, I do apologize) without receiving any. For some reason I'm not apt to think of the report button, and in that example I guess no others members were either, which is saying a lot considering how many people read that thread. It just seems like maybe the section isn't getting as much attention from mods as it currently needs?

EDIT: Oh, and I meant to say that I see no reason lisie should have been discouraged from making such a suggestion... isn't that what this section is for?

I haven't ever used the report button myself either, however, when I see a thread that is getting out of hand I PM a mod. I have not once waited for more than 5 hours before I got a mod responds or the thread got locked. So if you don't think of the report button, you might want to give that a try some day =) I've found (nearly) all mods to be active at least once through out the day and respond just fine to PMs about threads that are getting out of hands.

Mind you, I do PM any mod that is online at the time or that I know is likely to be online soon. I don't usually PM the mod that is mod of that section.

Of course not, who would when they're having such fun participating? Thankfully there are some people floating about who do use the button, or take the time to call a mods attention to a situation. The mods aren't here only to run around policing through each thread looking for the chance to flex our authority.
