Hi. Arent you all worried about the conditions that betta fish are kept in at stores? Heres a story of my betta fish rescue

It was the day that i was going to get my fighting fish, i was in the shop then a green betta fish caught my eye. He was kept in very bad conditions (like the others. But there was just something special about this fighting fish. So in the end i bought him. He was kept in very good conditions afterwards. He was then called Sumo. I like the same sumo because it represents his strong spiri.
Can you please tell some stories about your betta rescue? I know that some bettas arent kept in bad conditions, but most of them are!

I started out on betta fish as I happened to walk past the shelf they were all kept on and spied a gorgeous one at the back...moved him to the front as he was so pretty, then went back and moved him to the back as because he was so pretty someone who wanted one would surely look on the shelf properly...a month later he was still there so he was MINE :).

Lol your storry is funny yet interesting, ive never seen black bettas (i know they exist) in Fish stores

My guy was a Walmart fish. Worst conditions I've personally seen to date.
I was also out of town, 7 hours from home. Ignoring advice from my mother and my husband, I bought him anyway!
For the trip home, I packed him in a very large (and antique lol) Mason jar, with a mesh lid for air, but also as a barrier so he couldn't be an escapee. I put the jar in a short box with newspaper packed around him to try and help cushion the bumpy ride.
And he survived!
He now lives in a 6 gallon fully filtered and heated tank. He had 4 ghost shrimp roomies but they "mysteriously" disappeared overnight a few weeks ago. Apparently that's what happens if I miss one single feeding with my betta. :D
Here's a pic of him, I named him Pearl Jam. He actually has a lot more purple on him now- a lot more coloring on his dorsal fin, and he actually has a dark purple stripe/shimmer that runs down his back/spinal area. I'll have to try and get him to hold still for a more recent picture. :fun:

He was my beautiful little loyal boy (he had favourites hehe and he used to flare at my boyfriend all of the time :)).

my store keep them in tanks with other fish, i;ve had quite a few from them not many in need of rescue. Raja was the most needy IMO he had NO fins, he was kept with clawed shrimp, he was spoilt rotten with me and it showed, his tail had fully grown from nothing in 2 months! will dig some pics up of him :good:

Edit! found some pics :)
