I found my female betta sinking to the bottom and looking very lethargic this morning with a bit of java moss sticking out of her mouth. I pulled it out and it was about a centimeter long! She’s completely back to normal now so I’m fairly sure the java moss was the issue but I don’t know why she ate it in the first place. I didn’t feed her yesterday but i’ve been feeding her regularly otherwise. Why would she eat the java moss? (Edit: I didn’t take a photo of her with the moss in her mouth because i was too busy trying to help her)

Hi :)
Not eating Java moss but seeking for little bugs that live in.

It shows how Betta are predators and how important it is to vary the food.

Maybe she thought it was a worm? Try her with some frozen foods, brine shrimp is a good one
