So about 2 weeks ago my fish spawned and my male was carrying eggs. I removed the female. He swallowed the eggs (i think inexperienced) about 3 days ago I reintroduced the female, the male was picking on her but I thought they wouod work it out in a day or two, they did not. The female is cowering in a corner, not moving and not eating. When I put them back together i put deworming medication in because they had worms. I removed the female just now. Where do I put her? The only other tank I have that could work is a 55 gallon with rummynose and otocinclus.

Will she be okay without the second dose of meds?

Parameters are 0, 0, 5 in both tanks

I moved her to a 3.5 gallon. Next steps??

Why did you move her out initially?
With Bettas that live in groups, you need to keep the group together so you don't upset the pecking order.

You can try rearranging the main tank and putting her back in with the male. Have lots of plants and hiding places. Do a big water change and gravel clean at the same time so it disturbs him a bit more.

------------------
If the water chemistry in the 55 gallon tank is the same as her tank, she should be fine with rummynose tetras and Otocinclus catfish. However, if you have any big boisterous fish in that tank, the Betta might not get enough food.

------------------
If you are going to deworm fish, you need to do all your tanks at the same time.

The first dose of medication kills adult worms in the fish's digestive tract.

The second, third an forth follow up doses kill any baby worms that hatch from eggs in the fish's digestive tract or that are in the tank. The follow up doses are done at weekly intervals.

Do I need to deworm all at the same time if only one tank has them?

I moved her out because she was pestering the male and I didnt want to stress him when he was holding

can you guarantee the other tanks don't have worms?
have you used the same equipment to clean both tanks?

Unless you wash up between tanks and use different equipment for each tank, there is no guarantee they are free of worms.

I recommend doing all tanks at the same time to prevent cross contamination after treatment. The choice is yours, if you don't want to do the other tanks, that is up to you, but you might have to do them again in 6 months if the other tanks have worms in.

Okay thank you:)

She died last night. I should have moved her out sooner

Oh no! Is this one of the couples you ordered? I am sick for you! :rip:
Yep. I lost my male pugnax too. He jumped through a quarter inch gap. So now I have a female pugnax and a male dimidiata and I cant order more

Thanks^_^ it's not your fault though

Any idea why she died?
She was picking on the male and they don't normally fight. Seems odd that she would up and die.

I used to put sponge or filter floss in the gaps on the coverglass to stop fish jumping out.

Why can't you order more?
If you get more, try to buy 6-10 of each species so they can choose their own partners.
