I have a female betta. When it is time to eat, she eats her food and then goes down to eat the wafers I feed to my cory cats.

I know that as long as there is food available, they will continue to eat. I don't want her to eat too much because we all know what will happen next!

Any advice on how to solve this issue?

Thanks

*when she finishes eating she goes to the bottom of the tank and hangs out with them. She follows them around the tank until the wafers are gone and then she returns to the top.

2nd question:

The same betta as above thinks my new ghost shrimps look delicious. She chases them around the tank until she can't find them. If she catches them, will she harm them, or is she just curious?

Bettas will eat anything they can. What do you feed your corydoras? Shrimp pellets? As for the ghost shrimp she could either eat them or just want to follow them around. Have any plants the ghosts can hide in?

Thank for the reply, Sarah.

Yes, They have plenty of hiding places. The tank is well planted. I actually just watched one of the ghost shrimp stand its ground against the betta.

Yay! As for the Cory, give the beta some food as you feed the corydoras or feed the corydoras at night.

Thanks for the advice about feeding at night. I didn't think about that. I'm new to fish keeping. Just getting into the hobby. That is the reason I joined this wonderful forum!

Corydoras should have shrimp pellets, not algae wafers. The API sinking bottom feeder pellets are a good one, that doesn’t have much left over waste. They also don’t break apart very easily, so it would be more difficult for the betta to go right after it.

Usually corydoras and bettas aren’t temperature compatible. Unless you have sterbai corydoras.

Bettas will eat the shrimp. She sounds like she is actively hunting them. Don’t be surprised if they disappear. Amano shrimp tend to survive a little more often, because they are bigger.

Good luck!

She is now leaving them alone. She swims by them like they are not even there. I think she was just curious when I put them in. Also, I feed my cory cats shrimp pellets. They seem to like them very much.
