Well last night at around 3:45 p.m EST my male was released into my tank ...by 4:45 p.m. EST my female was in the chimney :) Well not it is 10:37 est the next day and he hasn't even started the nest !! He has a cup and is VERY intredted in the female ...... I know he can build a nest on his own and knows how b/c he built one about 2 weeks ago on his own that was huge  And when I got him I got a female too that died about 4 days after getting her but I left them in there cups for about 6 hours before they were released into their new homes. While in there cups next too each other the male released sperm in his own cup  But now he wont build it !! I will give him about 24 hours total and then what do you suggest ??

The male does not have to build a nest before they spawn. Some do, some don't. Most seem to build most of it as they spawn. Even the female will help at that point if she fully understands what is going on. Some females retrieve eggs and put in nest, others eat the eggs. It depends on the fish. If the female is a darker bodied female, she will show vertical bars along her side when she is ready. I'd just leave her in the chimney 24 hours, and release her. If she shows bars before that, release her. You can tell if the female is scared, or trying to impress the male. A successful spawn is determined more by the female than the male.

That post was VERy helpfull :D The female seems too want to get too him badly which I hope is a good thing ....I could barley see the stipes in the tank but once she was in the tank with the male they looked like tiger stripes !!! really cool looking if she stayed like that :) she is a dark purple with a silverish underside and red fins ... So in 24 hours if there seems too be no nest build at all should I go ahead and release her anyway ??
