My half-moon doubletail beta has been living in a 10 gallon community tank with some fish which are supposedly able to cohabitate well with bettas yet my fish's tail has been getting pretty beat up! Idk what to do!

I have:
1x Green/Bronze Cory Cat
1x Skunk Cory Cat
1x Albino Cory Cat
1x Male Halfmoon Double-Tail Betta
5x Neon Tetra
2x Assassin Snail

Pls help ASAP, I have him in a ziploc right now but I hope to get him back to the community soon!

Idk if it is i don't think so. Is it possible it is one of his tank mates??

It has to be the neons then. They are usually peaceful though, so maybe just trade them for a different group.

Alright I have come across this before.

Neons are very peaceful fish yes, but when kept in smaller groups they tend to get "nippy" toward other fish, don't ask me why they just simply do.

What I would suggest is to actually add a few more neons like 3 or 4. But the problem is your tank is getting overstocked.

Not saying it won't work, but if you go by the book you shouldn't be adding anymore fish.

compensate the over stocking with more regular water changes... Its a temporary fix but keeps the fish healthy. Which i'm sure everyone will agree is the main thing.

My betta fish actually bites his own fins. They bite their own fins when they are stressed and it's a sign that he isn't happy and something isn't right. He hated being with other fish, and he hated being in a big tank - even a 48litre on his own! So he is now in a small tank on his own and he couldn't be happier, the tail biting has stopped :)

Plants are always a great addition, for cover, vegetable matter, little bit O2... however in a overstocked tank it will not help at all apart from maybes fixing some of the nitrates, but any dead plant material will do the opposit, also on a night plants switch from photosynthesis to respiration, so add to the bioload. It wouldnt be a replacement for the extra water changes if thats what your asking? but it will deffo not be a bad thing adding plants!
