i find these fish abslutely fascinating. got 2 bettas. one lives at home and one lives in the office. they are so different its amazing.

The one in the office "Binky" is a tiny lil guy but hes alot of fun. whats really interesting is that one time i accidentally left the package of betta biogold next to the bowl, and he started attacking the picture of the betta on the box! now i mess with him every now and again and put the pic of a betta right infornt of the bowl just to seem him get a bit active.

i took a piece of post-it paper and traced out the betta from the biogold package. i showed it to binky and there was no reaction. then i took a red marker and colored it in and put in highlights showing fin details. i showed it to binky and bingo. he started to react to a SKETCH of a betta. how funny is that?

i was under impression that fish dont see color. is that true? i wonder what is it about the sketch that gets him all excited. i tried the same experiment with the betta i have at home and that one shows no reaction to either biogold package or a sketch of a betta.

Bettas are pretty well-known for exhibiting different personalities. You never know what silly quirks your bettas might have. :D

I have no idea whether or not fish can see color though.

If fish couldn't see in color, why would they come in so many colors? :D

There have been lots of studies done on what will trigger aggression in male bettas- color, shape, movement? I'll see if I can find an interesting article.

I used to have one that attacked a pen when I put it near the tank. It wasnt shiny or anything he just didnt like it... :good: :good:

I also have two bettas. one at home Fred and the other at work Greg. At they are as diffrent as night and day. Fred is active but has a more laid back personality, he has only flared at me once. Greg on the other hand is very fiesty, he flares at about anything that moves. They are both a lot of fun and I enjoy both of them.

my little boy my frist betta will flare at my computer constantly and while i am trying to study he will dance and stare at me. it has gotten so bad that i move to the other side of the room so i can work. i never knew a fish could have such personaility.

Both Spider and Valhalla flare wildly at their own reflections in the mirrored glass on the side of their tanks. Moonshine, who is a far lazier and laid-back fish, needs another betta to spark him into action.
