So I had this crazy idea, I want to know if it will work!

I have recently started up a shrimp tank, Cherry shrimp

It is a 10 gallon planted tank. I would like to know if I put my Male betta "Boss" into this tank will he be okay? and will my shrimp be okay?!?

your betta will probably try to eat them if they can fit into his mouth..

I have shrimp in two of my boys tanks. One just has cherrys and pays them no heed at all. The other has a mix of cherries, blue pearls and rili shrimp and pays them no heed at all. It really does just depend on your betta.

Was just about to ask the same question fivestar, let us know how you get on

Afraid not, they're fairly new. Got them from ebay. :)

Just noticed where you're based. I'm in the UK. Those would be very unhappy shrimp!

It depends on the personality of the betta. My betta Alpha has two cherries in his tank (soon, to include 10 Blue Pearls) one of them is fully grown, the other smaller than my pinkie nail. He ignores the big one, and gave the little one a look, but he ignored him. Mind you, he had just been fed. But I have a lot of hiding spots in my tank, inlcuding a pile of rocks forming a whole system of caves, where the little one, Jumbo, spends most of his time. He'll be fine as long as he can access food and when he must venutre out, that Alpha is fed.

Another method you could try, is taking the betta out of the tank during the shrimp's acclimation. Then add the shrimp, let them settle for 5 minutes, then add the betta. He will not view the shrimp as invading "his" territory, and depending on the personality, won't go after them.

It's all sheer luck.

Good luck! :good:

Someone was trying to sell 10 ghost shrimp for 35$. Watch out for things like that.

I know right, I was at a LFS and they offered 10 Ghost Shrimp for $1 and it took forever to convice my mom not to buy them :grr:

I watched in horror as my male betta picked off five shrimp within minutes. As I don't have suitable water for shrimp (who knew we had copper pipes!) they wouldn't have survived anyways. But it was heartbreaking to watch my cherries who I bought online be massacred like that.

Been here. Betta has short memory. He regularly inspects the shrimps. He may or may not attack depending on his mood.
