Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone would have some advice on whether or not a male betta would do okay with a school of Rainbow celebese. I saw a beautiful yellow betta at one of my LFS's the other day when I was out buying another betta to give as a gift to a relative. It was in a community tank with some with some barbs and tetras (don't know what type, sorry) and he seemed to be doing okay. At least he was the first time I saw him. I went back later in the week to oggle him and he was hiding underneath the heater.

I think he would look gorgoues in my ten gallon sand and driftwood tank, but I just don't know how he would react to the celebese. They are peaceful little fish (at least that's the way they act around me :p) and I don't want him terrorizing them. at the same time, I think he would very eye catching as a swimming centerpiece set against the much more subtile coloring of the celebese. Sort of like a sun floating among some small stars. (or some junk like that :p )

I've read that the celebese are very peaceful, I'd worry more about how bad the betta will be. With only three celebese the betta MAY just leave them alone OR torture them until they go crazy, ya never know. It depends on the temperment of the betta :/

I think aggression levels in bettas have a lot to do with color. I have two light males...a white/cream and a yellow and they're both very mild mannered. But they also live alone next to females so I can't say for sure.

Now you say he is in a tank and not a cup so ...he might become super aggressive in a slightly stocked tank as yours or he might be super relieved that he finally has some room to call his own.

All you can do is try it and have someplace for the betta handy in case it doesn't work out :D

You better grab that betta before someone else does!
I know all too well what happens when you don't.....
